Bolband: frequently asked questions
IELTS Speaking Coach
How is this different from practising with ChatGPT?
Bolband runs the real test structure for you: Part 1, a Part 2 cue card with the 1-minute prep and 2-minute talk, and Part 3 discussion, one question at a time. Every answer gets a note against the four IELTS criteria, the final result rates each criterion separately, and your weakest answer comes back rewritten one band higher. You don't have to write prompts or remember the format.
Can I actually speak my answers?
Yes. In the mock test tap the mic and speak; your browser turns it into text (works best in Chrome or Edge, and in Safari on iPhone). The questions can be read aloud to you. You can also type your answers if you can't speak out loud where you are.
Does it check my pronunciation?
No, and we say so in every result. The AI reads a transcript of what you said, so it can judge fluency, vocabulary and grammar, but it cannot hear your accent or intonation. For Pronunciation it tells you what to check when you record yourself. If pronunciation is your main problem, a human teacher is worth paying for.
Is the band score accurate?
It is an estimate from the public IELTS band descriptors, shown as a half-band range, not an official score. Only a certified IELTS examiner gives your real band. Use it to see which criterion is holding you back and whether you are moving up week to week.
Should I memorise the cue card answers?
No. Examiners are trained to notice memorised answers, and a learned script usually breaks the moment the card is slightly different. Each answer comes with the 1-minute notes you could actually write in the exam. Practise speaking from the notes, and reuse the same real story for several cue cards (we show you which).
Are these the current cue cards for this exam season?
Nobody outside IELTS has the official question bank. Lists online are what recent candidates report, and topics change every few months. Paste any cue card you have seen in a recent list or a coaching handout and Bolband builds your answer and the Part 3 questions for it.
What band do I need for Canada PR?
Express Entry uses IELTS General Training. CLB 7 needs 6.0 in every skill; CLB 9 needs Reading 7.0, Writing 7.0, Listening 8.0 and Speaking 7.0. Use the free CLB checker below the tool, and confirm on the IRCC website before you apply.
Can I get explanations in Hindi or Punjabi?
Yes. Choose Hinglish, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Urdu and more for the explanations and feedback. Model answers and test questions stay in English, as in the real exam.
How much does it cost?
You can try it free every day (2 results and one full mock test). A 30-day pass with unlimited mock tests, cue card answers and scoring is ₹499 / $10, and a 1-year pass costs 5 months' worth. No subscription to cancel. One IELTS retake costs far more.
